Fashion rules are so last decade, especially when it comes to dressing appropriately for your age. If you feel like getting your pins out at 50, like superbod Helena Christensen or 46 year old Heidi Klum, then reach for that mini dress.

You don’t even have to have supermodel legs to ‘get away with it’. Do you feel like it? That’s enough. Attitude is your best asset these days regardless of how much mileage you’ve clocked up. In the July edition of British Vogue, supermodel Naomi Campbell confesses:

“It’s taken me a long time to feel right in my body – it’s something that has come with age, and has really only happened over the past few years.”

At 49, Naomi has no intention of bowing out of the game and signed to a new agency last year as a mark of determination and longevity.

Seventy three year old Helen Mirren is another happy fashion bunny who always holds her own on the red carpet in amongst the hip slits and the naked dresses panting for attention.

Between her pink hair at Cannes and her bootees and soft chiffon dress, she’s never afraid to take a fashion risk and most importantly, she looks like she’s having fun. What’s the point otherwise eh?

Forty eight year old Amanda Holden is never shy of a controversial garment for her Britain’s Got Talent audience. “Oh I’m always in trouble,” she says and then goes again with an even lower cut dress.

Whether it’s demure in orange or risqué in black, Amanda is not Holden back. Indeed why leave it to the new pretenders to push boundaries? If fashion is anything, it’s a form of expression, a reflection of the mood of its time and barometre for change. Staying relevant, that vile term, no longer means being 20, for a woman, this all-inclusive mood makes for exciting fashion choice for all ages.
